Opnsense Router Upgrade
Previously having worked on creating VLANs on my home network. What I encountered was the router was my bottleneck. The router having to manage multiple gig vlans and the router having a celeron CPU was not up to the task. When remoting into Virtual Machines there was lag and delays. Restored everything back to a flat network.
Having replaced and upgraded my home servers. Now having extra computer parts, a thought of repurpose came to mind. With the price of RAM and Storage going through the roof. It made sense to repurpose my Ryzen 5 5600x, 64gb DDR4 ECC RAM, Dual 2.5gb dual NIC. Just purchased a 2u server case, power supply, Dual SFP+ 10gb NIC, 3x80mm case fans and CPU fan for under $200 dollars compared to mini pcs and purchasing RAM and storage for a minimum of $400 and above.
Installed Opnsense and used the restored Opnsense configuration. Currently running on my stack and now going to add several other services along with VLAN. One step at a time.
