Odyssey Blue J4125

I had been searching for a small PC that was low powered, dual Intel Ethernet, and quad core CPU.  The Odyssey Blue J4125 fit the bill.  I had seen other “Fan-less” computers about the same price point.  Another reason I decided on the Odyssey was that the CPU was slightly more updated and can do encryption.  Purchased this unit of Amazon.  It came with a 128GB SSD drive preinstalled.

The main purpose that I had envisioned was to set this unit as my main firewall on my network.  I had donated my old Dell R710 server since it was too noisy, used a lot of energy and generated a lot of heat.  It was great to learn Virtual Machines and installing many services on my home network.  But not great for long-term use.  Over the weekend I had tried a few Opensource Firewall Operating Systems on this unit.  I installed OPNSENSE, PFSENSE, Nethserver, Untangle, and many more.  I had narrowed it down to OPNSENSE and Untangle.  OPNSENSE is great and has a multitude of addons.  The only downside was I could not get the port forwarding to work to display my security cameras outside the network.  Then I tried installing Untangle and within 20 minutes I had internet up and running along with port forwarding.  I enabled other services on Untangle.  So far it works and I am glad at the results. Now I converted my wireless router into a Access Point.  I may purchase another unit to replace my MacMini as my Windows Server 2019.  Only time will tell.  The important thing is everything works and I am Happy, Happy, Happy.
