Mint Mobile Review

After using a few cell phone service providers in the last few years.  I would like to take the time and review Mint Mobile.  Mint Mobile is on the T-Mobile Network.  It is a prepaid cell phone service.  They have multiple service tiers with different price options depending on the end user needs.  The major thing that this company has that other don’t is? They actually save you money.  Mint Mobile does not have any physical locations at this time.  They don’t have to pay for locations and hire people for those locations. Then pass on those savings onto you the customer.  What a a novel idea.

I broke down what I was paying for on MetroPCS and compared it to Mint Mobile plans.  Another reason to shop for another provider was the MetroPCS some time ago introduced new cell phone plans that included amazon prime and a few extras.  I noticed something that they removed from the new plans.  That was the included hot spot services unless you paid the top tier plan.  I went to check in person at my local MetroPCS shop, there was a huge line and the wait time was long.  When I get to talk to a rep they go and check my account and were surprised that I had hot spot service on my old outdated account.  They suggested that if I were to upgrade to the new basic plan I would lose the hot spot feature. I declined and went back home.

It was the holidays of 2018, I saw a good deal of 3 months of service for the price of one month. I paid and tested it out on my LG phone.  The service was great, I was surprised.  I thought there was a going to be a gatcha moment soon.  Nope.  I let my MetroPCS plan expire. Then I did the math.

Metro PCS I was paying for:

  • $480 a year for 3Gb of data
  • Hot spot service included
  • National Unlimited and Text Messages
  • Plan got grandfathered and if I were to change phones I would need a new plan

Mint Mobile:

  • Paid $300 dollars per year (upfront cost) for their Ultimate Package
  • 12GB of Data
  • Unlimited Voice and Text
  • Included Canada and Mexico Calling for free
  • Hot spot Service included in every tier
  • Bring Your Own Phone as long it is a Sim Card
  • Support was great and easy to setup by following the guides
  • I later added family members and I got referral money for it which is used for next year renewal.  Win-Win
  • The Phone I upgraded with this plan was still less than $480.
  • You can transfer your old number or get a new one. You decide.

I have a few other family and friends who are going to switch over.  Its about saving money and getting the most bang for your dollar. You have to ask “What has your service provider done to earn your money?” If the answer is other than save you money.  Start looking elsewhere.  I highly recommend Mint Mobile.
