Home Network – Part 4 Pi-Hole Round 2
I had been following along the updates for Pi-Hole and decided to give Pi-Hole another chance. I used an updated Ubuntu Server version 18.04 this time. The previous time I had used Ubuntu Server version 16. I followed the instructions and got it to work. The only difference now is my computers all point to the Windows Server for DNS. I configured the Windows DNS Server to forward the DNS requests to the Pi-Hole. The Pi-Hole itself now handles the DNS Requests and blocks ads. The DNS lookup is equally fast as before no lag on performance. At first a few websites it would take an extra second or two. The second time I re-visit the same website it loads a lot faster. There is a lot less ads on most of my websites and the layout of the websites looks cleaner. On YouTube, I notice it does play the first commercial but does not play any other commercials in between the video at all. Still tinkering and messing around with the settings. Overall, I am happy with how this project came out. A must have on home networks. I added more block lists using the list from Tutorial #2.
