Router/Gateway/Firewall Unit
Trying and testing many opensource solutions in regard to a Firewall/Gateway/Router and picking one that would work for my home network. My criteria is the following:
- Simple to use for Portforwarding
- OPENVPN to work with a DDNS Provider
- Simple Graphical User Interface for management
- What other add-on software was available
- Important thing is that it works
Reserved one network port on the Server for incoming internet traffic and one outgoing network port for outgoing internet traffic. After thoughtful consideration I selected Untangle. Each one had good points and features. Nothing against anyone, I understand things can change in the future with more features coming and going. Also support could stop one day. Untangle was easier to work with and more intuitive for me to use and got it to work in a short amount of time. The port forwarding, VPN, and adblocking features is ultimately swayed me to pick Untangle. The main one like pfSense is really respected and has a great support community but did not work well for me.
