Network Upgrade 2025 – Part I
Last week, finally received the best news to start a great year. Frontier Fiber is now being offered in my neighborhood. It only took over 10 years. Relatives in Tijuana had Fiber Internet before me. Been stuck using Spectrum Internet with 1gb download and 40mb upload. Cable internet connection is shared with other users in my neighborhood that leads to slower speeds during peak use. Fiber Internet is a dedicated internet line to my home and only home users can use all the speed. The new Frontier service I want to get is the 2Gb download and upload. Great for home lab servers and home users.
The current plan is to upgrade the home network devices for the incoming faster internet speeds. Most of the devices in the home network are running at 1gb. Doing my research and planned to upgrade in steps. First step is to upgrade the wireless bridge that handles the POE Security cameras that are located in a different part of my home. My previous wireless bridge has been around since 2021 and has not been getting updates in a long while. This Wireless Router GL.iNet AX1800 has better range, faster speeds and runs opensource Opnwrt in the core and the GUI of GL.iNet. Having used the Beryl Travel Router from GL.Inet I have been pleased with the brand so far. This Wireless bridge will paired with GL-MT6000 as the main Access Point that is due to arrive soon. Stay tuned.
