Having an extra Raspberry Pi lying around looking for a project to use it. I purchase a touch screen, mic, speaker and case. Reading about the many uses a Raspberry Pi can be used. One of many caught my eye. Turning the Raspberry Pi as a assistant. An opensource equivalent of Google or Alexa. The opensource version is named Mycroft.

I got Mycroft working on the my hardware. But seemed it was limited on what it can do for now. It shows me it has great potential. The developers are currently focusing their attention on their second version of Mycroft running on their hardware. Leaving Mycroft OS to the side for now. When you activate Mycroft it will work 50/50 of the time. When I started to change the default settings I noticed even though there are options. Doesn’t mean those options work. I switched between CNN and Fox news and both did not work. The default is NPR and BBC those worked without a charm. As you can see from the video.

I then tried other projects. I installed StreamPi to use this as a streaming deck. It was great project. StreamPi has great potential but it works ok when compared to my android tablet doing the same thing. The next projects I have to try are making a digital photo frame or Home Assistant hub for my smart home.
