NVIDIA Shield Remote
Lately, I have been noticing the original NVIDIA remotes on my Shield have issues. I have multiple NVIDIA Shields throughout my home. The batteries were replaced once a year. Now, I see the low battery warning from the remotes every 3 months like clock work. Granted, they have been under more use. By default these remotes are not designed for the long use. When pressing the buttons to access the menu or volume it lags and feels the remote can’t wake up from sleep mode. Where I have to manually restart the device by unplugging the power cable and then works after that.
I took a chance and purchased these Rii Remotes from Amazon. These remotes had the highest reviews. These remotes use AAA batteries instead the smaller CR2032 batteries from the NVIDIA remotes. The remote feels a bit more sturdier. I was impressed that some of the other features were wireless mouse pointer and keyboard. After the quick initial pairing with my NVIDIA Shield. I was watching TV. Great alternative when compared to paying twice more for the original remotes.
Possible remote for future Raspberry Pi Android TV box projects? Stay tuned.
