Phone Systems
I don’t have traditional land lines in my home. I opted for a VOIP (Voice over IP) solution. Meaning that my home phone service is over the internet. I have used in the past services such as Vonage and VOIPO. Both were great but as a tech guy I want to save money and get more value.
After my research I purchased two separate Obihai phone adapters. Obihai 202 and Obihai 200 adapters. Get a Google account to use Google Voice. Pair the devices through the Obihai website. Then connect a regular phone to your Obihai adapter and you have phone service. The only caveat is E911. Google Voice does not offer E911. I purchased the service separately for $12 dollars a year. VOIPO was $185 for 2 years of service, about $92.50 a year. I have both units on my rack hardwired to my network. But have the option for an extra charge to purchase a USB wireless adapter. Then you could make phone calls or receive faxes wireless on your fax machine. I configured my second sever to work as a dedicated Fax Server. I don’t waste paper, all of my Faxes come in as PDF and I can send faxes from my computer like a printer.
- 2 phone lines. I have one hooked up for my Business Line and the other for a dedicated fax line
- Google Voice and this device will be able to send and receive Faxes
- Downside, one must disable the DHCP part of the device it will wreak havoc on the IP addresses
- Paired this a VTECH desk phone. I can get calls on my Cell, Desk, Tablet using Google Voice or Hangouts Dialer
- Use this device as my new home phone number for home use
- Paired this with my existing Panasonic Home Phone System
- signed up for E911 and my home has 911 features
- Free calling to US
My phone device is an expendable DECT 6.0 phone system. It has many benefits:
- Runs on 1.8GHZ frequency and wouldn’t interfere with the Home Wireless systems running at 2.4GHZ and 5GhZ
- Intercom system to call each bedroom as an extension
- I can transfer calls to another phone within the home
- Wireless
