Android piTV

With my Sister’s Birthday coming up. I wanted to hook her up with a nice thoughtful gift. I had a spare Raspberry Pi 4 (4gb) model. I came across an article on installing android TV to a Raspberry Pi. I figured “why not!”. I had ordered the case, power supply and remote control. Having extra Micro-SD cards lying around. I was ready to embark on this project.

It was easy to assembly. Installing Android TV was not a breeze as I originally thought. I had gotten it down on the 3rd time re-installing the Operating System along with the correct GAPPS version. Surprisingly, it worked well. Sister has an older LCD tv that does not play well with my the newer NVIDIA Shield TV Box. I figured the Raspberry Pi would close the gap. Happy to report it worked.

-Update-

My Sister really liked her new Android TV box. She now has access to Plex, Google Play Store, and other TV apps she enjoys. If she gets tired of Android TV, I can repurpose the device to a retro-pie. Either way its a win/win situation. Here are the pictures.
