NextcloudPi
My first project to tackle on the Raspberry Pi Rack is NextCloud. Nextcloud is an forked project from Owncloud. Essentially, it is having your own Google Suite that you own and control. There was one variety that caught my attention more. Nextcloudpi. Nextcloudpi is the Raspberry Pi version of Nextcloud that is easy to setup and deploy. Having configured Nextcloudpi and running it for the last 4 months flawlessly. I added SSL certificate to my system. I can access Nextcloudpi outside my home network and syncs up all of my data. It is great alternative to having a google account. I replaced the following services.:
- Google Drive – No longer limited to Gdrive 15gb limit. I have a lot more and can always upgrade.
- Google Calendar – I have calendar access via web or on my phone that I can edit appointments.
- Google Contacts – I manage my own contact list.
- Google Notes – I can use Carnet and keep notes on the go and syncs up perfectly
- Bookmark Manager – No longer using Firefox for my bookmarks. I can download Nextcloud extension to Firefox/Chrome and have the same bookmarks.
- and other services I am beta testing.
- I can add friends and family onto my service or just hoard it myself
The system is all mine, lock, stock and barrel. No longer need Google except for one service but that is going to get phased out in the near future. I enjoy being tech agnostic and independent.
